This Refresher Course meets the requirements for the position of a Supervisor in the Resources Industry as per s.56 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and s.51 of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 and are recognised by both Coal Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee and the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee.  These competencies are required to be refreshed at least every 5 years as per Reg. 84 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 (Qld).

The course comprises three units of competency which have specified by the Coal and Metalliferous Mining Safety and Health Advisory Boards for any person authorised to supervise workers on a mine.

Entry & Course Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, you must possess basic literacy and numeracy skills. You may be required to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) indicator prior to enrolling.

Post successful completion of the theory assessment, you must be able to provide sufficient evidence of prior recognised learning (RPL) in order to be able to gain a competent outcome. Minimum evidence includes, but does not limit the following:

    • Self-assessment questionnaire (template provided)
    • Copy of previous G189 (S123) Statement of Attainment (SOA) (Refresher Pathway)
    • Incident Investigation / ICAM report
    • Procedure you have approved or SWMS
    • x2 Take 5’s
    • JSEA and/or Risk Assessment
    • Supervisor signoff on conducting a pre-start
    • x1 written example of email communication
    • x1 outline of prepared toolbox and/or pre-start talk
    • An example of a time sheet, payslip, name badge or any other form of
      evidence that associates your name to the job title of Supervisor

You will have 60 days to complete the course and provide sufficient evidence.
